An Altona institution

Glamour up front.
The milk bar at heart.

The Corner sits where Pier Street meets the village, a few minutes' walk from the beach, the parks and the shops. It used to be Rockabye Candy. Now it is a big, light room with a long cabinet, a coffee machine that rarely stops and a counter you order at like you always have.

The reimagining took the old milk bar and gave it a little Art Deco polish: the gold lettering, the numbered table cards, the lolly jars tied with ribbon. Down to earth and accessible, with room enough for prams, dogs at the door and the whole family on a Sunday.

A nod to the milk bar

Lolly jars on the counter.
Ribbon on the jars.

Every suburb had one. The milk bar was where you bought the paper, a bag of mixed lollies and a milkshake you were not supposed to have before dinner. The Corner keeps that feeling on the counter: jars of strawberries and cream and musk sticks, tied in the house burgundy, ready to be filled for a birthday or a Sunday walk to the pier.

Bring the kids. Bring your parents. Somebody will recognise the jars.
